Winemaking

Luis Reginato

Is a third generation winemaker and viticulturist who has been working with Nicolas and Laura Catena since he graduated from Agricultural Engineering school in Mendoza in 1999.

Today Luis is Vineyard Director for the Catena Zapata family vineyards and an active participant in the Catena Institute’s viticultural studies, which focus on high altitude, cool climate wine-growing.

Luis’ winemaking talents run in his blood. His grandparents came to Argentina from the Veneto and Marche regions of Italy and settled in La Consulta in the southernmost part of the Uco Valley in 1907, where they took advantage of its abundant farming opportunities.

Luis’ grandfather was a barrel maker and viticulturist, and his father Jose and brother Pepe also grew up in the wine business and today they are well known in Mendoza for the elegant sparkling wines that they produce at their family winery.

The technical and artisanal sides of viticulture and winemaking.

Luis has thrived working at Catena and has honed his skills over the last 20 years. Alongside Laura and her father Nicolas Catena, Luis is committed to studying the Argentine wine terroir.

Luis has been an integral part of the work the Catena family has done over the last 20 years to advance the Mendoza region.

Most recently, he was responsible for working with the Catena Institute to create a Sustainability Certification for Argentina and to provide the scientific basis for establishing Paraje Altamira, Gualtallary and Los Chacayes new formal appellations in the Uco Valley of Mendoza.

Luis is responsible for planting many of the Catena family’s high altitude vineyards over the last 15 years. Since then, he has worked closely with the growers on the managing of their unique vineyards for the La Posta Wines.

LABEL

INSPIRATION

Each La Posta label illustrates a story of these individual families. The labels were inspired by Art Nouveau and Art Déco designs of the 1920’s and 1930’s.

One taste and you will welcome these growers into your own families, into your glass, and into your heart.

Meet THE GROWERS

Pizzella Family

The Pizzella Family invites you to journey westward into the Uco Valley for a Sunday afternoon with their family. There will be no schedule beyond the sun warming your skin and the air filling your lungs. You will sit at the family table and with each passing moment, you will become more of a part of it.

And it will remind you of important work – TO ENJOY THE SIMPLER TIMES.

Paula and Pablo Pizzella came from Buenos Aires to Mendoza in 2000, where they achieved early success growing cool-climate Malbec grapes. Both parents are physical education teachers, and along with their three children get plenty of conditioning working this beautiful 10-hectare vineyard together.

Their viticulture approach can be best described as “meticulous” with exacting uniformity and balance as the goals. The ranch in Altamira (La Consulta) where the vineyard is located is named Finca Coquena after the god and protector of goats, sheep, and llamas in the Andes mountains.

Ángel Paulucci

Angel Paulucci invites you to climb into his 1933 Model A and weave through the Vineyards of Ugarteche. You’ll hear of his childhood in Italy and his passion for Malbec grapes. Later, over dinner, he will fill your glass.

The air, cooled by The Andes, will melt away your worries and inspire you to FIND YOUR PASSION.
Angel Paulucci’s family has produced wine in Italy since the early 1800’s, and Angel arrived in Mendoza with his parents in 1953 at the age of 21. In 1960, he planted his first Malbec vineyard.

If you get Angel talking, plan to stay a while—he will regale you with childhood stories of enemy soldiers firing bullets into his family’s wine barrels so that they could quench their thirst.

And of course, he will tell you about his vineyard: very tight spacing, superficial irrigation, lime-laden soils and Malbec grapes that make an old-timer smile.

Domingo Fazzio

Domingo Fazzio invites you to rest at the edge of the vineyard to find inspiration. You’ll hear about how his family moved to Argentina in search of a better life. And of the better life they found as each vine took root. You’ll hear of his love of working the soil and dancing the tango.

You’ll leave inspired by this “old man” to NEVER SLOW DOWN.

Domingo Fazzio’s grandfather, Salvador, an Italian from Sicilia, travelled to Argentina in 1917 looking for a better life. Francisco Fazzio, his son, got married in Mendoza and had three children. In 1955, he bought 15 hectares in Tupungato to dedicate himself to viticulture. Domingo Fazzio, third generation of Don Salvador Fazzio’s family, expanded the family business and purchased lands in Tupungato where he grew different fruits in a farm.

In 2005, he bought a vineyard of 100 hectares in the area of Agua Amarga, Tupungato. The name of this property is «El Nono Francisco» to honor his father.

This vineyard is located in a very privileged area at 1100 metres high bordering las Tunas River from where they get water to irrigate the land. Local ancient people tell that more than 150 years ago, a big Indian settlement used to inhabit this land. When they started to work the land, they found archaeological remains which show evidence of this settlement.
